VISION: Protection of Consumers’ Rights, Spreading Awareness.

MISSION: To make the teachers and students aware of their rights and responsibilities as consumers and to help them in getting justice if deceived while purchasing goods and services.

Victoria Institution (College) Consumer Club has been created on 12 th March 2024. It is a collaborative venture of the Department of Consumer Affairs, Govt of West Bengal and VIC.The Consumer Club aims to create awareness among teachers and students about their rights and responsibilities as consumers that will help themselves. Moreover, as responsible and well informed consumers, they will spread awareness among other members of the society.

OBJECTIVES:

  • To make the teachers and students aware of the precautions they have to take while buying goods and services so that they are not cheated.
  • If they are deceived as consumers how their grievance can be redressed.
  • As deceived consumers where they can go for their grievance redressal.
  • To make the teachers and students aware of the legal provisions available for consumers’ protection.
  • A responsible citizen of a nation has to be a responsible consumer as well.

ACTIVITIES:

The Department of Consumer Affairs and VIC Consumer Club had their inaugural meeting at the college on 13 th March at 11 A.M. Victoria Institution (College) is the first College in Central Kolkata region where Consumer Club has been created. The officers of the Department of Consumer Affairs and Fair Business Practices, Kolkata Central R.O., Government of West Bengal,and thePrincipal of the college Dr. MatreyiRayKanjilal were present in the occasion. A large number of teachers and students of the college attended the meeting. The Assistant Director of the Department of Consumer Affairs (Central Kolkata R.O.), Mr. Subrata Mondal and the other officials of the Department, through their valuable speech, made the audience aware of the various types of unfair business practices that they may come across. The Department of Consumer Affairs and the Consumer Club, VIC, will organize various consumer awareness activities regularly in future.
